BANGKOK — Three former crew members of the Thailand-flagged cargo ship Mayuree Naree filed a lawsuit at the Central Labour Court in Bangkok on July 10, 2026. Panithi Tumkaew, Noppadon Wongsuvan, and Surades Manpuen filed the action against Precious Shipping Co., two affiliated companies, and the ship's captain.

The lawsuit alleges wrongful dismissal and insufficient compensation for post-traumatic stress disorder following an attack on the Mayuree Naree north of Oman on March 11, 2026. Three people died in the incident. Twenty crew members were rescued and returned to Thailand approximately one week later.

Lawyer Kunpat Singhathong stated the lawsuit claims the defendants endangered the crew's lives by sailing through the Strait of Hormuz despite security risks. Singhathong said the three men were dismissed before completing their nine-month employment contracts after the attack rendered the ship inoperable. The crew members received compensation equivalent to two months' salary, Singhathong stated. He added that the compensation was inadequate because the men have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and are unable to work as sailors. The compensation sought would be over one million baht ($30,000) per person, Singhathong stated.

Panithi Tumkaew, a former sailor, stated he had worked for Precious Shipping for more than a decade. "When there are loud noises, I'll get startled," Tumkaew said. He added, "I can't work now, and I have to take medication."

Singhathong indicated that negotiations with the company had not yielded a resolution. "We tried to negotiate with the company, but it denied responsibility, so we believe the matter should be brought to the court," Singhathong said.
