DONALD — The remains of 13-year-old Layla Jeffery were discovered in Donald, Victoria, prompting a suspicious death investigation by Victoria Police. A 16-year-old boy was arrested in connection with the case after a warrant was executed at a home in Swan Hill.

Law enforcement officials are treating the death as suspicious. Police said the remains are believed to be those of Layla Jeffery, though they have not yet been formally identified. The 16-year-old boy is currently being interviewed by detectives.

In addition to the arrest, a 53-year-old woman from Donald is assisting police with inquiries. A 55-year-old woman from Melbourne is also assisting law enforcement. Swan Hill, where the arrest warrant was executed, is approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Donald.

Layla Jeffery was reported missing on July 5, following her last sighting on McCracken Street in Donald on July 4. A large-scale search had been conducted in bushland located west of Byrne Street.

Local police, along with specialist officers from the dog squad, air wing, and search and rescue squad, participated in the search efforts. Earlier, a warrant was executed at a residential property in Donald shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday.
