ABU DHABI — A new trailer for "Dune: Part Three" was released during an event in Los Angeles, where the film's director, Denis Villeneuve, and actor Timothée Chalamet presented the footage. The presentation was simulcast in multiple international cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Toronto, Montreal, London, Berlin, Mexico City, and Abu Dhabi.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release on December 18, 2026. The film is inspired by Frank Herbert's novel "Dune Messiah," and the narrative takes place 17 years after the events of "Dune: Part Two."
Timothée Chalamet portrays Paul Atreides in the film, while Zendaya plays Chani. Other cast members include Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and Hayt. Anya Taylor-Joy portrays Alia Atreides, and Robert Pattinson is cast as Scytale. Josh Brolin plays Gurney Halleck, Isaach de Bankolé is Farok, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa portrays Leto II Atreides, and Ida Brooke plays Ghanima Atreides.
In the trailer, Paul Atreides is depicted as the Emperor of the known universe. Chani confronts Paul, stating, "I trusted you! You promised me that you would never take power in your name. You convinced me that this was your home, that I was your home."
Villeneuve commented on the film's nature, stating, "The people that know the book know that it's a very different beast. It's more of a thriller. It's a more intense story. And it's definitely much more emotional as well. So it will be the third and last film of 'Dune'." Chalamet also reflected on his experience, saying, "I had to tell myself to savor it, how rare it is to work on something of an artistic level."
The production of "Dune: Part Three" involves Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures. Linus Sandgren serves as the cinematographer, and Hans Zimmer composes the music. Villeneuve expressed gratitude for the collaboration, stating, "It was the privilege of my life to work with all of you."
Why It Matters
The release of the trailer and the details provided by the director and lead actor mark a step in the production and marketing of "Dune: Part Three." The film represents the adaptation of a major science fiction novel, "Dune Messiah," which explores the later life of Paul Atreides. The film's narrative begins 17 years after the previous installment, indicating a time jump that will introduce new plot developments and character dynamics for the franchise's extensive fanbase. The project builds on previous films in the series.
