WEST PALM BEACH — Palm Beach International Airport was officially renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport on July 9, 2026. The Federal Aviation Administration authorized the name change to take effect on the same day.

The airport's IATA code changed from PBI to DJT. Passengers are instructed to continue using the code PBI for booking flights and checking bags until August 18, 2026, when the International Air Transport Association code change is scheduled to fully transition. The airport transition includes updates to signage, branding, and public-facing materials in phases.

A Florida state law mandating the renaming took effect in July 2026. The Florida legislature passed the renaming legislation in February 2026, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the legislation into law in March 2026. The Palm Beach County board of commissioners approved a licensing agreement for the airport name in May 2026 by a 4-3 vote.

Donald Trump is the first U.S. president to have an airport named after him while in office. U.S. Representative Lois Frankel said, "Airports named after presidents have traditionally been designated once they leave office and through decisions made by local communities and local authorities — not imposed from above." Kimberly Benza, a Trump Organization spokesperson, said, "it is the company's normal practice to file for trademark protection because the 'Trump' name and brand is internationally known and a frequent target of infringers, counterfeiters and unauthorized users around the world." Benza added, "the President and his family will not receive any royalty, licensing fee, or financial consideration whatsoever from the airport renaming."

DTTM Operations filed three trademark applications in February 2026 for DJT, President Donald J. Trump International Airport, and Donald J. Trump International Airport. These trademark applications were pending approval as of July 2026. The licensing agreement for the airport name prohibits Donald Trump from receiving royalties, fees, or revenue from the purchase or sale of merchandise by the county or airport retailers.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy commented on the change, stating, "Florida, get ready to take the exit for President Donald J. Trump International Airport." Airport officials acknowledged the change in a statement, saying, "While we recognize that the required name change may be received in different ways by our passengers, we're grateful for your continued support through this transition period." They also stated, "While some things may evolve over time, our core focus remains the same: providing a safe, reliable and welcoming airport experience."

More than 8 million passengers fly through Palm Beach International Airport each year. The name change is the subject of two separate local lawsuits. In January 2026, a 4-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard linking Mar-a-Lago to the airport was ceremonially renamed President Donald J. Trump Boulevard. Donald Trump declared Palm Beach his permanent residence in 2019.
