DETROIT — Ford Motor is recalling more than 177,000 vehicles for three separate safety-related defects involving windshield wipers, pinion shaft fractures, and pedestrian warning sound software failures. Vehicle owners will receive letters this month informing them of the safety risks.

One recall affects 67,842 Mustang vehicles from the 2024-26 model years and Mustang GTD vehicles from the 2025-26 model years. This action addresses a windshield wiper and washing system malfunction that can occur in cold temperatures. In affected vehicles, the wipers may operate only at their high-speed setting, or the washing system may completely fail. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall number for this issue is 26V418000. Dealers will make the necessary repairs free of charge.

Another recall involves 42,784 Mustang Mach E vehicles from the 2021-23 model years. This recall concerns a pinion shaft fracture risk. A fractured pinion shaft can lead to a loss of drive power or allow a parked vehicle to move if its parking brake is not engaged. The NHTSA recall number for this defect is 26V417000. Dealers will repair this issue at no cost to owners.

Separately, 66,383 Lincoln Nautilus Hybrid vehicles from the 2024-27 model years and Explorer Hybrid vehicles from the 2025-27 model years are being recalled. These vehicles have a software error that can prevent them from producing a pedestrian warning sound. The NHTSA recall number for the pedestrian warning sound software error is 26V415000. These vehicles are eligible for a free system replacement.

In late June, Ford also recalled more than 741,000 vehicles for a faulty park system. That recall is separate from the actions announced this month. The current recalls cover model years spanning from 2021 through 2027, with specific defects tied to distinct production windows within that range.
