WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump appeared with Rep. Ryan Mackenzie at a Mack Trucks manufacturing facility in Macungie, Pennsylvania, on June 23 to endorse Mackenzie in his re-election bid. The event marked one of five campaign appearances Trump has made as of July 7 to support Republican candidates or weigh in on Republican primaries.

During the event, Trump called for Mackenzie's re-election. "We've got to get a certain very talented congressman reelected. Where are you? Where are you, Mr. Congressman?" Trump asked. He later added, "We've got to make sure you vote for our congressman here. I'm not doing this for my health." Trump mentioned Representative Mackenzie by name at the 54th minute of the event.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that Trump will be an active campaigner leading into the summer and fall midterm elections. White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles had also indicated in December that Trump was planned to have a robust midterm campaign schedule. Wiles stated in an online talk show, "Typically in the midterms it's not about who's sitting at the White House. You localize the election, and you keep the federal officials out of it. We're actually going to turn that on its head and put him on the ballot because so many of those low-propensity voters are Trump voters."

Voters will head to the polls on November 3 to decide control of both the House and Senate. The University of Virginia's Center for Politics has assessed that Democrats have a narrow path to gain control of the Senate. In a prior midterm cycle between January 1, 2018, and July 7, 2018, Trump held nine campaign events to support Republican congressional candidates.
