PRAGUE — Czech police arrested a foreign national on Monday who claimed responsibility for last week's Molotov cocktail attack on the Russian House cultural center in Prague. The male suspect turned himself in and acknowledged planning the attack since last summer.

The incident took place late Thursday in Prague. Igor Girenko, director of the Russian cultural center, said six Molotov cocktails were thrown at the building on Thursday. Girenko said three of the Molotov cocktails did not explode.

A photo of the building showed a broken window and two windows and a wall partly covered with smoke. The building did not catch fire. Police did not name the man's nationality or provide any other details.

The Russian embassy in Prague asked Czech authorities to boost security of Russian institutions and their employees in the country. Maria Zakharova, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, described the attack as a "barbaric act." The Czech Foreign Ministry condemned the attack.

The Russian House is funded by the Russian state but does not have diplomatic status. The center organizes cultural, educational, and scientific programs and offers Russian language courses.
