BISHKEK — A judge in Bishkek delivered a verdict on July 2, 2024, in the "Letter of 75" case, finding Kamchybek Tashiev and seven others guilty of preparing a coup attempt. The court sentenced them to three years of supervised probation, replacing initial four-year prison sentences.

Kamchybek Tashiev, former head of the State Committee for National Security, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, former Speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh, and Kurmankul Zulushev, former Member of Parliament, were among those found guilty of a coup attempt under Article 326 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Five other defendants were also found guilty under the same article. Tashiev, Turgunbek uulu, Zulushev, and the five other individuals were acquitted of abuse of office charges.

A statement from the court explained that "it was not a completed crime, as provided for by Article 326 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, that was established, but preparation for its commission." The court statement cited the "personalities of the accused and their potential for rehabilitation without serving a prison sentence" in justifying probation. Following the verdict, five defendants who had been in custody were released. Tashiev did not serve any time in detention.

The trial began in mid-May and was closed to the public. At the request of the defendants, the trial was opened to the public in mid-June. During the open trial, Tashiev shouted down a witness in full view of the media. The trial was re-classified as closed to the public after Tashiev shouted down a witness.

The "Letter of 75" case relates to an appeal signed by 75 public figures urging Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to call for an early presidential election. The appeal noted that many of the Japarov administration's successes, such as settling borders with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, were initiatives spearheaded by Tashiev. Tashiev led the State Committee for National Security from May 2021 until his dismissal in February. His dismissal occurred two days after the "Letter of 75" began circulating.
