TAYLOR — Four Taylor police officers fired at a robbery suspect on Monday after the individual allegedly rammed a patrol car with a U-Haul truck and brandished a pistol. The suspect was struck by at least one bullet and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. Taylor Police Chief John Blair stated that officers on patrol spotted the U-Haul near Eureka Road and Interstate 75. "The vehicle was wanted out of Ohio for an aggravated robbery, with the suspect considered armed and dangerous," Blair said. He added, "Our officers contacted Ohio and confirmed the information; it was a U-Haul truck that pulled into the Sheetz (gas station) on Eureka."

The initial officers waited for backup before approaching the suspect's vehicle. Blair said the suspect attempted to pull away, but the exits were blocked by patrol cars. "He backed the truck up and hit the front of a patrol car, then pulled forward and struck a Ford Bronco that was parked there, which had nothing to do with this incident," Blair said.

Blair also said, "As officers approached the man, he produced a pistol." Four officers then discharged their weapons. "Four officers fired rounds, striking the driver, whom we took into custody," Blair said. A female passenger in the U-Haul was not struck by gunfire and was brought in for questioning. Blair noted, "Local agencies were there within minutes to help." The four officers involved were placed on administrative leave pending an investigation by the Michigan State Police, and Blair stated they were back at the station waiting to be interviewed.
