NORTH JERSEY — Heavy rainfall on July 5 and 6, 2025, caused flooding, road closures, and power outages across North Jersey, impacting thousands of utility customers and disrupting NJ Transit rail services. Paramus Mayor Chris DiPiazza declared a State of Emergency in Paramus on Sunday, July 5.

Road flooding affected Route 21, Route 208, and Route 280 in Essex, Bergen, and Passaic counties. A crash resulted in the closure of Route 21 in Passaic near exit 12. The storm also caused downed trees and power lines.

As of 7 a.m. on July 6, over 50,000 PSE&G and JCP&L customers were without power. More than 14,000 customers in Morris County experienced outages, while 5,000 customers in Sussex County were also without power. In Bergen County, over 5,000 people lost power, including 1,500 customers in Paramus.

NJ Transit announced service adjustments due to the storm. The transit agency stated, "Due to ongoing repairs following this weekend's storms, Gladstone Branch service remains suspended through the end of the day today." Limited service was also in effect on the Morris and Essex line. NJ Transit reported, "Morris and Essex is operating limited service between Summit and Penn Station New York." The agency added, "North Jersey Coast Line rail service is subject to up to 30-minute delays between Long Branch and Bay Head due to weather-related signal issues." NJ Transit also detailed cross-honoring procedures, stating, "NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes are being cross honored by NJ TRANSIT and private carrier buses and PATH at Hoboken Terminal, Newark Penn Station, and 33rd Street, New York." All other rail services were scheduled to operate on a regular weekday schedule. The forecast for North Jersey through Monday night included 2-4 inches of rain.
