HOUSTON — Two people were hospitalized after a fire broke out in a first-floor room at the Deluxe Inn in south-central Houston just after midnight on Monday, July 6, 2026. The Houston Fire Department responded to the hotel, located in the 2600 block of Truxillo Street near Live Oak Street.

Firefighters stated that the blaze began in a first-floor hotel room. One person inside that room managed to escape before fire crews arrived but sustained major burns and smoke inhalation. This individual was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

A woman occupying the room directly above where the fire started also received treatment for smoke inhalation and burns. Fire officials reported that she is in stable condition and is expected to recover. About 20 hotel units experienced a combination of smoke and fire damage due to the incident.

The Houston Fire Department noted that the building is an older-style structure and that each room has only one entrance and exit. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to guests who were displaced by the fire. The exact number of people staying at the hotel at the time of the fire has not been released by officials. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
