Interim President Delcy Rodriguez stated there would be no social unrest in Venezuela during a military service on July 5, 2026, which marked the nation's 215th Independence Day. Her address followed two severe earthquakes that struck the country on June 24, 2026, resulting in casualties and displacement.

Venezuela's Ministry of Communication and Information reported on Independence Day that the earthquakes caused 3,342 deaths. The seismic events also injured 16,470 people and left 17,345 without homes. The earthquakes, which measured magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, damaged buildings in both La Guaira and the Caracas metropolitan area. The June 24 earthquakes are the deadliest in Venezuela in a century and the most catastrophic natural disaster in the country since the flash floods of 1999.

During her address, Rodriguez said, "There will be no social unrest here." She added, "What we have here is deep social solidarity." She also addressed potential external pressures, stating, "Attempts are being made today to attack Venezuelan institutions." Rodriguez emphasized the need for unity, saying, "There can be no room for any kind of conspiracy, internal or external, from whatever source it may come."

Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate for promoting democracy, commented on alliances, writing, "Enduring alliances are built on truth and trust."
