SAN ANTONIO — Rene Moreno, 29, was arrested on Saturday and charged with murder in connection with the May 8 death of Eric Tellez Perez in San Antonio. Moreno was booked into the Bexar County Adult Detention Center on Sunday.

Eric Tellez Perez, 39, was found unresponsive at a home in the 8900 block of Prairie Hill around 1:30 p.m. on May 8. He was pronounced dead at the scene, having sustained severe trauma to the back of his head.

An arrest affidavit states that a neighbor told officers he had an altercation with Perez on the morning of May 8. The neighbor had visible facial injuries consistent with his account of the altercation. Detectives recovered evidence and a DVR recorder connected to cameras facing the crime scene from the neighbor's residence.

Surveillance footage from the DVR system showed three masked men entering the abandoned home where Perez was found. One of these men was carrying an aluminum bat, another was carrying a metal rod, and the third appeared to be unarmed. The arrest affidavit alleges that Moreno was one of the masked men carrying the metal rod.

Victor Sigala told detectives that Moreno was with him during the attack and also struck Perez. Multiple witnesses identified Moreno in connection with the attack.

Detectives positively identified Moreno on June 23 using body camera footage from May 26. This footage showed Moreno approximately one mile from the murder scene, wearing a large silver wallet chain, a distinct dark mark on his left hand, and a large silver skull ring on his left pinkie finger. The identifiers visible in the body camera footage matched those visible in the DVR footage from the day of the murder.
