GAZA — Army Radio released previously unpublished Hamas documents on Sunday detailing joint planning between Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran in the years leading up to the October 7 attack.

In 2019, Hamas began to accelerate plans to defeat the Gaza Division. Ismail Haniyeh, former head of the Hamas political bureau, wrote to Hassan Nasrallah stating that Palestinians are confident Nasrallah will not disappoint them in their campaign against their enemy. Hamas also sent a letter similar to the one sent to Nasrallah to Iran's former supreme leader Ali Khamenei.

During Operation Guardian of the Walls in May 2021, a joint intelligence war room was opened in Beirut for Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. The documents state that Hezbollah thwarted an Israeli operation on Hamas's tunnel network in the Gaza Strip and prewarned Hamas of IDF activity in the area. According to the documents, Hezbollah helped prevent the IDF from killing Hamas Northern Brigade commander Ahmad Al Ghandou in 2021; Al Ghandou was later killed by the IDF in November 2023.

In May 2022, senior Hamas officials met with Nasrallah and Saeed Izadi, IRGC Palestine Corps commander, in Beirut to discuss the expansion of confrontation with Israel. Yahya Sinwar, former Hamas leader, sent a letter to Nasrallah raising possible options for an attack on Israel, including counting on an invasion from Jordan and Syria. Ayman Siam was killed by the IDF in November 2023.

A document written by Hamas's military intelligence wing revealed that several members of Hamas and Hezbollah had hesitations regarding the attack. Nassrallah was killed by the IDF on September 27, 2024, and Sinwar was killed by the IDF on October 16, 2024.
