KENSINGTON — Gary Glitter has been charged with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14. The Metropolitan Police announced the charges on July 2, 2026, and Glitter is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on August 5, 2026.

The charges relate to one alleged victim and stem from incidents that allegedly occurred between 1978 and 1981 at a residential address in Kensington, London. Police received the initial allegations in January 2025, and Glitter, whose birth name is Paul Gadd, was interviewed by police in July 2025. Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Bethan David stated, "Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so."

Glitter is currently serving a 16-year prison sentence. He was convicted in 2015 of attempted rape, unlawful intercourse with a girl under 13, and indecent assault. He was released on probation in February 2023 after serving half of his sentence, but returned to prison in March 2023 after violating his probation. His bid for parole was denied in June 2025.

Glitter was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life upon his return to the U.K. in 2008. Earlier, he was deported from Cambodia in 2002 under suspicion of sex offenses. He was convicted in Vietnam of committing obscene acts with two girls aged 10 and 11 and was sentenced to four years in jail by a Vietnamese court.

Prior legal issues for Glitter include an arrest in 1997, leading to a 1999 conviction for possessing child pornography. He was also arrested in 2012.
