JASPER COUNTY — The Missouri Attorney General's Office announced an investigation into ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller on July 2, 2026. The investigation follows complaints concerning allegations of unpaid fantasy football winnings, mismanagement of charity funds, and misleading donors after a GoFundMe campaign was launched following his car accident.

Miller was involved in a serious car accident on June 17, 2026, on Mo-96 in Jasper County, Missouri. His 2023 Bronco crossed the center line and struck a semi tractor trailer. He was airlifted to Mercy Joplin and underwent an amputation of his left arm due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the 2024 International semi was not injured.

On June 23, Miller stated he suffered multiple fractures and broken ribs in the accident. He said, "Last week, I was involved in a serious car accident in Missouri and was airlifted to Mercy Hospital." He added, "I'm deeply grateful for the exceptional care I have received, from the first responders to the doctors, nurses and medical staff." He also said, "I'm incredibly fortunate to be writing this." ESPN hired Miller full-time in 2022 as an NFL Draft analyst.

Miller's sister-in-law initiated a GoFundMe campaign for him after the accident, which generated more than $51,000 in donations. ESPN colleagues such as Pat McAfee, Mel Kiper Jr., Adam Schefter, and Wright Thompson contributed to the campaign. The initial goal of the GoFundMe page was $10,000. On June 25, 2026, the goal was raised progressively to $16,000, then $30,000, and finally $55,000. Matt Miller's mother is listed as the beneficiary of the campaign. The GoFundMe campaign was paused by the organizer on July 3, 2026.

The Missouri Attorney General's Office confirmed the ongoing investigation into Miller. A spokesperson said, "The Missouri Attorney General's Office encourages consumers from any state who believe they have been misled to contact us." The spokesperson added, "Attorney General Hanaway takes consumer protection very seriously, and we will work diligently to uncover the facts."

The investigation includes questions regarding Miller's prior public charity efforts and discrepancies concerning his 417 Foundation charity. In late May 2026, a user on the Dynasty Fantasy Football Subreddit posted a thread titled "Matt Miller Leagues and Scam," alleging that Miller failed to pay out a fantasy league winner. Multiple users responded in the Reddit thread with similar accounts from leagues Miller had started. One user stated that Sleeper confirmed Miller is banned from its platform. Sleeper did not immediately respond to a request to confirm whether Miller had been banned. Miller served as the commissioner for 91 different fantasy football leagues in 2025. Claims against Miller also include accusations that he did not fulfill paid scouting lessons he had sold.

Miller has not posted on social media since June 29, 2026. ESPN declined to comment on the story.
