Isle of Man doctors voted in support of taking strike action over pay in June 2026. This decision followed a ballot in which 95% of voting British Medical Association members favored industrial action.

Of the 168 eligible British Medical Association members, 104 participated in the ballot. The British Medical Association stated that inflation has resulted in a 29% real-terms pay cut for doctors since 2008. Manx Care made a new pay offer on June 18, 2026, and a ballot on this proposed deal is scheduled to conclude the week following July 3, 2026. No date has been set for potential industrial action.

Prakash Thiagarajan, Chair of the Isle of Man Medical Society, said, "Pay erosion had left doctors feeling undervalued and increasingly concerned about the future of the profession on the island." He added, "The latest vote was a clear message that the current situation cannot continue."

Emma Runswick, Deputy chair of council for the British Medical Association, said, "In voting for strike action, doctors were standing up for fair pay, recognition of their expertise, and the long-term sustainability of medical staffing on the island." Doctors on the Isle of Man previously called off a planned walkout in January 2025 after reaching a pay deal that covered two financial years from 2023-24. That agreement included an 8% pay uplift for the first year, followed by a 6% pay rise from April 2024, and a 2% pay rise from February 2025. The British Medical Association stated that despite these raises, doctors' real-terms pay remains below 2008 levels.

Manx Care chief executive Teresa Cope departed her role coincident with the strike ballot result. Cope had served as Manx Care chief executive since the organization's creation in 2021. Manx Care chair Wendy Reid also announced her intention to step down in summer 2026.
