LIBERTY, TEXAS — Former Liberty Police Department officer Jason Grindstaff turned himself in to jail on the morning of July 3, 2026, following an indictment for official oppression and indecent assault. Bond for Grindstaff had not been set as of that date.

The indictment resulted from an investigation that began in December 2025. Grindstaff resigned from his position while under investigation on February 27, 2026.

The alleged incident leading to the charges occurred in late November 2025. The Liberty Police chief received a complaint regarding Grindstaff on December 3, 2025. This complaint prompted an investigation by the Texas Rangers.

Grindstaff was on administrative leave from December 4, 2025, until his resignation on February 27, 2026. Charging records containing additional details of the alleged incident were not available on July 3, 2026.

The City of Liberty issued a statement regarding the situation. "The City remains committed to maintaining public trust, accountability, and professionalism in all municipal operations. Any additional questions regarding the criminal case should be directed to the appropriate prosecutorial or law enforcement authorities," the City said.
