The IDF stated the Certificate of Appreciation recognized the service and contribution of Captain Pernot, his soldiers, and the U.S. air defense contingent deployed in Israel. The IDF also stated that the IDF and U.S. Army have "demonstrated a level of partnership, professionalism, and innovation unmatched in modern warfare."

Zamir marked the occasion by stating, "Today marks 1,000 days since the outbreak of the longest war in our history, a war that began with a grave failure and the worst tragedy in the history of the State of Israel." He emphasized ongoing military preparedness, stating, "Iran continues to be the primary focus of our preparedness." Zamir described the current operational status, saying, "We are currently in an interim period across all theaters of operation." He added, "All arenas remain active at varying levels of intensity, and each is undergoing defining developments."

Defense Minister Israel Katz spoke on July 2, stating that one thousand days after October 7, "our enemies understand very well that their attempt to destroy the State of Israel has failed." He added, "We emerged from the greatest catastrophe we have ever known into Israel's war against Hamas."

Memorials and protests marking 1,000 days since the October 7 Hamas attack were held across Israel on July 2, 2026. Protests began at 6:29 a.m. local time, marking the exact time the October 7, 2023, assault launched. The Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, resulted in the deaths of 1,221 people and militants took 251 hostages to Gaza, according to official Israeli figures. Israel's military campaign in Gaza has killed more than 73,000 people, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

On June 30, 2026, Brigadier General Shay Tayeb addressed the IDF's need for three laws to resolve its manpower crisis: an effective conscription law, an extension of mandatory service, and a new reserve duty law. Tayeb stated that the standing army is consistently at war. He said, "The standing army is reaching its limit, for the overwhelming majority of the year it is at war, and there are many casualties." He continued, "The intensity of the fighting is only increasing, and this is what the coming years are going to look like." The IDF has urged the government to extend mandatory military service for men to 36 months.

Mandatory military service for men was shortened to 30 months in August 2024. The first cohort enlisted under the 30-month service period will be discharged in January 2027. Tayeb noted that a service length of 30 months creates a gap of an entire cohort due to the four-month rotation cycle. This cohort gap, he said, "means the loss of thousands of combat soldiers." Approximately 80,000 ultra-Orthodox men aged 18 to 24 are currently eligible for military service but have not enlisted. A 2024 High Court ruling found ultra-Orthodox military service exemptions unconstitutional. The IDF has stated it urgently needs 12,000 more recruits.
