MELBOURNE — Ebony Bell received a 12-month community corrections order with conviction and a $300 fine after pleading guilty to charges including the assault of Senator Lidia Thorpe and two other individuals. The ruling also included a six-month deferred sentence handed down on October 13, 2025.

Bell pleaded guilty in September 2025 to recklessly causing injury to Thorpe and the unlawful assault of two others. As part of her community corrections order, Bell was directed to undergo treatment for alcohol addiction and anger management.

The incident involving Senator Thorpe occurred in May 2024, when Bell assaulted Thorpe, her male friend, and another woman. A verbal altercation between Bell and Thorpe took place outside Gate 1 of the MCG at approximately 10:00 PM. Bell punched Thorpe twice in the head and then the jaw. She also punched Thorpe's male friend in the face and pulled a woman's hair as the woman attempted to restrain Bell on the ground.

In August 2025, Bell admitted to assaulting a security guard at a regional pub. CCTV footage from the incident showed Bell hitting a bouncer in the head three times with her phone after being denied entry to the Whalers hotel in Warrnambool. Bell also dragged the bouncer to the ground outside the hotel and kicked him in the head while he was on the pavement.

Magistrate Jillian Prior presided over the case. Photos presented to the court documented Thorpe's injuries, including a bruised lip and neck.

Senator Lidia Thorpe commented on the conclusion of the legal proceedings. "I am thankful this matter has now been finalised," Thorpe said. "This has been a difficult experience, made harder by public speculation and imputations that did not reflect the facts ultimately established by the court."
