HITCHCOCK, TEXAS — Residents in the City of Hitchcock experienced a temporary water service interruption on Thursday, July 2, 2026. This interruption occurred after city officials reported that a construction crew struck an 8-inch water main.

Parts of Hitchcock were without water, and other areas had low water pressure. The outage was caused by a contractor for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) hitting a 6-inch line connected to an 8-inch water line along Highway 6, according to Hitchcock Mayor Chris Armacost. The City of Hitchcock Public Works Department initially stated in a Facebook post that a water main along Highway 6, in front of Good Ole Days Park, was shut down for scheduled maintenance.

Mayor Armacost stated that the outage was reported on Thursday afternoon. He urged residents to keep their water use at a minimum for at least two hours after 3:45 p.m. Hitchcock crews could not isolate the line near Good Ole Days Park and expanded their repair area to reduce pressure on the line. Officials confirmed that a boil water notice has not been issued.

The city posted a public notice on Facebook around noon on July 2, 2026. The notice stated that the maintenance was necessary to improve the reliability of the city's water system.
