HOUSTON — The Houston Police Department responded to an incident at a parking garage located at 601 Travis Street around 9:10 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, after a woman was attacked.

Investigators stated that the woman had just arrived at the downtown Houston parking garage when she was approached by a suspect. The suspect, described as a homeless man believed to be in his early 20s, allegedly choked the woman and attempted to sexually assault her.

The woman informed police she was able to break free from the assault. Dispatch audio recorded a 911 call reporting a woman screaming in the parking garage.

An officer working a second job at the location began searching for the suspect based on the dispatch audio. Law enforcement officers located and arrested the suspect around noon near Main Street.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Her vehicle was towed away from the scene around 1:15 p.m. Charges against the suspect are currently pending.
