NEW YORK — A celebration involving Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce is expected to take place on Friday at Madison Square Garden. New York City officials confirmed that a street closure permit was applied for near the venue for the July 4 Independence Day weekend.

Dora Pekec, a spokesperson for the New York City mayor's office, stated that a permit was filed in early June to close roads around Madison Square Garden from July 2 to July 4. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani addressed preparations at a press conference on Wednesday, stating, "We are fully prepared, there isn't anything to share beyond that." He also posted on social media, advising people to stay cool, "especially if you're (hypothetically) having your wedding at MSG this weekend."

An unnamed law enforcement official confirmed wedding plans, citing warnings about a potential influx of fans. The New York Times reported that several players on Travis Kelce's Kansas City Chiefs team had booked hotel rooms near Madison Square Garden. A rehearsal dinner is reportedly scheduled for Thursday at the venue.

Props including a grand piano, carpets, and a box of mirror balls were seen being taken into Madison Square Garden. No parking signs have been placed around the venue. A forklift truck operator was also spotted wearing a Taylor Swift t-shirt while working at the Garden. Madison Square Garden is currently surrounded by members of the press.

Celebrity photographer Mickey Blank stated about the venue, "It's like Pentagon-level secrecy. You cannot go in, you cannot see anything." He also said, "All the high-profile guests are expected to arrive underground." Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Travis Kelce in a joint Instagram post in August 2025. The couple began dating in 2023.
