PARIS — KNDS has indefinitely postponed its planned Initial Public Offering (IPO), citing volatility in the European defense market. The decision was announced on May 21, 2025.
KNDS shareholders stated their intention to resume the IPO process upon the return of more favorable market conditions. The company stated that it has completed substantially all required preparation phases for its proposed listing before the postponement.
The company had planned to list its shares on stock exchanges in Frankfurt and Paris. KNDS produces the Leopard 2 main battle tank. The IPO was previously expected to take place in June 2025.
France and Germany finalized an agreement in April 2025 to become equal shareholders in KNDS. Berlin and Paris stated that their framework pact was a decisive step towards strengthening their common sovereignty in land defence.
The Financial Times reported that KNDS struggled to convince investors to support a valuation of more than 12 billion euros. Capital Alpha Partners, a forecasting firm, stated in an investor note on June 26 that the prior week was difficult for European defense stocks.
KNDS and its shareholders stated they will continue to monitor capital markets conditions closely and stand ready to resume the IPO process as soon as market conditions allow.
Why It Matters
The postponement of KNDS's IPO reflects current instability within the European defense market. KNDS is a major defense manufacturer, co-owned by France and Germany, and its listing plans were intended to proceed with dual listings in Frankfurt and Paris. This delay indicates how ongoing market conditions can affect major capitalization efforts even for established defense companies backed by national governments.
