The United States Central Command is considering relocating operational systems from its military bases in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia to Israel. The proposed move aims to increase the distance of US forces from potential missile and drone attacks emanating from Iran.

The US Navy base in Bahrain has suffered damage since late February. Iran has caused damage to at least 20 US sites across the Middle East since the war began. Capt. Tim Hawkins, a US Central Command spokesman, said: "Centcom rightfully prioritized the protection of people over buildings, and our strategy of protecting people worked." He also said: "Iran shot more than 8,000 missiles and drones, and only two hits resulted in US fatalities." Rebuilding Naval Support Activity Bahrain is estimated to cost $400 million, excluding expenses for debris removal, rebuilding two AN/GSC-52B satellite communication terminals, and other related costs for a communications management facility.

Two options under consideration include establishing a new facility in the Negev large enough to accommodate American army forces or expanding one of the Negev's existing air force bases to allocate an American compound. Bahrain has hosted the US Navy's central forces in the Middle East for more than 50 years. The US Department of Defense and the US Army plan to extend their supply contracts with the Israeli Ministry of Defense and the Israel Defense Forces until 2030.

Ben-Gurion Airport served as a host for US Air Force refueling aircraft during the 2026 Iran war. Civil Aviation Authority head Shmuel Zakai referred to Ben-Gurion Airport as a "US military base" due to the consistent presence of American planes. National Security Council director Shmuel Ben-Ezra stated that the US Air Force's presence resulted in a loss of NIS 700 million for the Israel Airports Authority. USAF aircraft will be relocated from Ben-Gurion Airport to Israel Air Force bases. Troops currently stationed at the Israel Air Force bases designated to receive USAF aircraft will transfer to other bases within Israel. A long-term American presence in Israel provides the US with access to the US Civil-Military Coordination Center at Kiryat Gat.
