KENTUCKY — Paramedics responded to a report of a cardiac arrest for an unconscious person at the Kentucky home of Senator Mitch McConnell on June 14, 2026. The emergency dispatch occurred before 9 a.m. that day, during which a medic stated there was "CPR in progress" at the address.

McConnell's office confirmed his hospitalization later that morning, stating, "Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care." The office has not disclosed the reason for his hospitalization or whether he remains hospitalized.

On June 15, 2026, Senate Majority Leader John Thune stated he had spoken with McConnell and that he "sounded good." Thune added, "He's clearly dialed into what's going on. He's following the stuff we're doing this week up here." Senator Rand Paul also commented on the same day that he "heard he's doing better."

McConnell's office provided an update on June 22, 2026. Spokesman David Popp stated, "Senator McConnell is still working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery. However, he will not be voting this week." McConnell last participated in a vote on June 11, 2026.

McConnell, 84, represents Kentucky in the Senate and served as Senate Republican leader from 2007 to 2025. He announced in 2025 that he would not seek re-election. He was first elected to the Senate in 1984.
