SAN FRANCISCO — U.S. District Judge Rita Lin issued a temporary order blocking the Pentagon from labeling Anthropic as a national security risk. Judge Lin stayed her order for one week to allow the Justice Department time to appeal.

Anthropic sued the Pentagon and the Trump administration to block Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's decision to label the company a "supply chain risk." In legal filings, Anthropic said it could lose billions of dollars if the national security risk designation remained.

President Donald Trump ordered all federal agencies to cease using Anthropic's products within six months. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he would formally label Anthropic as a national security risk.
