ATLANTA — Ciarre Campbell, 41, faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony following the death of his mother, 71-year-old Nateal Campbell, in Atlanta. Fulton County Jail records show Campbell was booked on July 1, 2026.

Police found Nateal Campbell unresponsive at her home in the Buckhead neighborhood on June 30, 2026, after responding to a welfare check call. Officers detained Ciarre Campbell after he had barricaded himself inside the residence.

Attorney Jay Abt is representing Ciarre Campbell. "We vigorously protest his innocence," Abt said. "We look forward to his day in court."

Atlanta Police Lt. Christopher Butler stated that police had received previous calls to the location in April regarding a possible arson incident. Butler added that there have been indications of possible mental health issues with an individual at the location.

The Campbell family issued a statement after Nateal Campbell's passing. "We are devastated to share that the Campbell Family has lost its matriarch, Mrs. Nateal Campbell," the statement said. "While the details of her passing are still being investigated, we take comfort in knowing she is reunited with our father, her beloved Chuck, and in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ." The family also requested privacy during this time.

Authorities obtained search warrants for the home, clothing, and DNA evidence as part of the investigation. Nateal Campbell was the mother of Ciarre Campbell and Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Calais Campbell. She was also a co-founder of the CRC Foundation, established in honor of Charles Richard Campbell, along with Calais, Ciarre, and their six other siblings.
