NEW HAVEN — Christopher O'Connor stepped down as chief executive of Yale New Haven Health System on June 29, 2026. Pamela Sutton-Wallace was appointed acting CEO, effective immediately.

Sutton-Wallace currently serves as president of the health system. The board of trustees will conduct a national search to replace O'Connor over the next several months. An internal email was sent to staff on Monday to announce the departure.

O'Connor worked at the system for 14 years, serving as CEO since 2022. Before becoming CEO, he held roles including executive vice president, chief operating officer, and president. During his tenure, O'Connor helped oversee the system's acquisition of St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Milford Hospital, and Westerly Hospital in Rhode Island.

Marna Borgstrom was CEO for 17 years prior to O'Connor. Borgstrom also served during the acquisition of St. Raphael's Hospital, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Milford Hospital, and Westerly Hospital. Yale New Haven Health System operates four hospitals in Connecticut and has over 6,600 affiliated physicians. The system reports more than $6 billion in net patient revenue.
