ODESSA — Bo French, the Republican nominee for Texas Railroad Commissioner, stated on June 30, 2026, that the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold birthright citizenship was "traitorous." French called for Texas to nullify the ruling by refusing to recognize children born to undocumented immigrants as citizens.

The U.S. Supreme Court voted 6-3 on June 30, 2026, to reject President Donald Trump's attempt to end birthright citizenship. French communicated his stance on X, writing, "The correct response to the traitorous decision today on anchor babies is nullification." He added, "Texas can just do things and we should." French also wrote, "Texas is sovereign," and stated, "If I have anything to say about it, Texas will not recognize them as citizens." French is the Republican nominee for Texas Railroad Commissioner in the November midterm election, facing state Representative Jon Rosenthal, a Democrat.

The Texas Railroad Commission is a century-old agency that governs the state's oil and gas industry. The commission does not have jurisdiction over immigration issues, and its commissioners cannot make decisions affecting a person's immigration status. Rosenthal, a career oil field engineer, characterized French's statements in a statement: "My opponent is going on an unhinged rant, encouraging sedition, treason, and racism."

French announced his candidacy for Texas Railroad Commissioner in November 2025. He won the Republican primary in a runoff against incumbent Jim Wright. French said, "I ran a campaign because I had to win a Republican primary." He discussed topics such as the "Islamification of Texas," DEI, and LGBTQ issues during his campaign. French stated, "Talking about the Islamification of Texas, talking about DEI, talking about LGBTQ issues … I think my victory is a testament to the grassroots folks in Texas who are tired of electing people who aren't fighting for them on any of these issues." Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick had endorsed Jim Wright during the primary season. Lieutenant Governor Patrick had previously called for French to step down as Tarrant County GOP chair. French said he had "a very nice call" with Patrick.

French's campaign has received funding from Tim Dunn and Farris Wilks. French has made appearances on podcasts hosted by Steve Bannon and Jack Posobiec.
