LONDON — British producer Chris Allison is auctioning an archive of Coldplay recordings, including an acoustic recording of a song titled "The World Is Not Enough." The recording features Chris Martin singing with acoustic guitar backing and was reportedly intended for the 1999 James Bond film of the same name. The track has not been previously released and is being sold as a single item on a cassette tape through Wax Poetics.

The recordings in the auction were created prior to the October 1999 release of Coldplay's second EP, The Blue Room. On its website, the band stated: "The band very much had [Bond composer] John Barry (composer of the best theme songs in film & tv ever!) in mind and there was a Bond film in the pipeline." This comment referred to "Spies," a track from their 2000 debut album, Parachutes.

The auction includes original master tapes recorded for The Blue Room, Coldplay's first release for Parlophone, which the band signed with in April 1999. At that time, the members of Coldplay were studying at University College London. The tapes contain previously unheard alternate versions of the tracks "Spies," "We Never Change," and "Shiver," which also appeared on Parachutes, as well as an unheard version of "Bigger Stronger" from The Blue Room.

A cassette marked "Coldplay Tracks" contains nine songs, including rehearsals of "Shiver" and "We Never Change," and a previously unheard song titled "Ode to Deodorant." Another cassette, titled "Coldplay: 5 Tracks," features developmental recordings from the band's early catalog. The offerings also include a cassette with live recordings from an early concert in Chester. Allison is selling rare promotional versions of The Blue Room on both CD and vinyl. It is not known whether the "The World Is Not Enough" recording was submitted for consideration for the film, for which the theme song was recorded by the band Garbage. The film starred Pierce Brosnan. Allison is donating a portion of the proceeds to the music education initiative Restore the Music.
