Malik Beasley was indicted on federal charges related to a sports-betting scheme on June 29, 2026. The indictment includes charges of sports bribery, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, honest services fraud, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Prosecutors allege Beasley agreed to alter his performance during games and accepted bribes from co-defendants. Prosecutors stated the bets were worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Beasley is accused of manipulating his performance in four games during the 2023-24 season, including rigging a game against the Charlotte Hornets involving a bet on his rebound total. During the 2023-24 season, Beasley was with the Milwaukee Bucks, where he averaged 11.3 points per game.

William Brown, Robert Gorodetsky, Ernesto Plascencia, and Paolo Zamorano were indicted alongside Beasley and a person identified as Davis. Zamorano is a current NBA player agent. Prosecutors allege co-defendants placed bets based on Beasley's performance with the intention of profiting from the scheme. Beasley and Davis were teammates on the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2020-21 NBA season. Beasley reportedly owed millions of dollars in gambling debt, and Davis reportedly loaned Beasley money to help pay off gambling debt.

U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella said the defendants allegedly operated an illegal betting ring to unlawfully earn hundreds of thousands of dollars. FBI Assistant Director James Barnacle said Beasley allegedly allowed himself to be bought and altered his gametime performance to line the pockets of Ed Davis and other co-conspirators. Steve Haney, Beasley's attorney, said Beasley has been indicted on federal charges for gambling related to a sports betting scheme involving point shaving and prop bets.

The government is coordinating a voluntary surrender for Beasley. Several defendants were arrested on Monday and will be arraigned at a later date. Beasley did not appear in the NBA during the 2025-26 season due to a gambling investigation.

Beasley played for the Detroit Pistons during the 2024-25 NBA season, appearing in 81 games and starting 18. He averaged 16.3 points and 2.6 rebounds per game with the Pistons that season and finished as the runner-up for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award. Beasley earned Sixth Man of the Year votes after the 2018-19 season. Beasley was selected with the No. 19 overall pick by the Denver Nuggets in the 2016 NBA Draft. He played for the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons, the Utah Jazz during the 2022-23 season, and the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2023 season.
