MICHIGAN — Jewish Voice for Peace Action endorsed Abdul El-Sayed for the U.S. Senate in Michigan. This marks the first time the organization has issued an endorsement for a U.S. Senate candidate.

Beth Miller, political director of Jewish Voice for Peace Action, stated: "Abdul has been a stalwart and unapologetic defender of Palestinian rights and freedom, and his campaign has demonstrated a moral consistency that centers justice and equality for all people." Miller added, "This campaign is a historic opportunity to bring a leader into office who will fight for our communities here at home, and to reimagine a US foreign policy that supports freedom and justice, not genocide and apartheid." She also said, "He knows our community intimately and cares for it," and noted, "Many candidates, many in the establishment of both parties, treat Palestinian safety, treat Jewish safety like political footballs that they can use to divide our communities in order to score political points." Miller concluded, "What I have seen from Dr. El-Sayed, he is not going to play into bad faith smears and attacks."

El-Sayed's campaign platform includes support for Medicare for All, a tax on billionaires, and labor protections against job displacement by AI. He has received endorsements from Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Chris Van Hollen, Representative Rashida Tlaib, and Representative Summer Lee. El-Sayed grew up in Michigan near the Jewish community and condemned a synagogue shooting.

Mallory McMorrow, a state senator and one of El-Sayed's opponents in the Democratic primary, commented on the diversity of Michigan's population. "I believe in freedom of speech, but we have a very diverse population here in Michigan — we have the largest Arab American population in the country, alongside a very large Jewish population," McMorrow said. Her husband and daughter are Jewish. She added, "We need to keep everyone together, not just to win, but to govern and represent this state appropriately."

Other candidates in the Michigan Democratic primary for U.S. Senate include Representative Haley Stevens and State Senator Mallory McMorrow. The U.S. Senate primary election in Michigan is scheduled for August 4. Jewish Voice for Peace Action, established in 2019, has previously supported candidates in House races in New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. The organization is also supporting Melat Kiros in the Colorado House primary election. Kiros was reportedly fired from her job as an attorney for refusing to remove a post regarding Palestine.

A June poll by Zenith Research showed El-Sayed leading Stevens and McMorrow in the primary. The same poll indicated El-Sayed outperforming his Democratic opponents against Mike Rogers, the likely Republican nominee, in a hypothetical November general election. The Zenith Research poll also found that 46 percent of Michigan voters support ending all U.S. weapons shipments to Israel. El-Sayed spoke at the Michigan Democratic Party Endorsement Convention in Detroit on April 19, 2026. He also invited Hasan Piker to campaign rallies at Michigan universities in the spring.
