Take-Two Interactive Software announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will be priced at $80 and will not include a physical copy. The game is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
Rockstar Games, a wholly owned subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, is developing the title. The release date follows previous schedules that first anticipated a launch in the fall of 2025, then a rescheduling to May 2026. Industry analysts have estimated the development cost for the game to be between $1 billion and $1.5 billion.
Strauss Zelnick has served as chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive Software since 2011. Under his leadership, the company's stock price increased from approximately $12 per share in 2011 to nearly $240 per share. Full-year net revenue was $5.6 billion in 2025, an increase from less than $1 billion before Zelnick became CEO.
Zelnick discussed his approach to leadership, stating, "I don't think being consumer-in-chief really helps a CEO be effective in this business." He added, "It's sort of like when I was in college. I never pulled an all-nighter because I was good about doing my homework. You do your homework, you don't pull an all-nighter." Zelnick is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Harvard Business School. He maintains a daily exercise routine, sometimes twice a day, and does not consume alcohol or smoke.
The predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, generated $1 billion in sales within three days of its release in 2013. It has sold more than 215 million units and has been the bestselling title in the U.S. by both unit and dollar sales over the past 10 years. The overall video game market was valued at $219 billion in 2024. In 2023, 19,000 games were released for consoles and PCs, compared to just under 2,000 games in 2014.
