SAN ANTONIO — Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez appeared in court on May 13, 2026, facing a murder charge in Bexar County's 437th Criminal District Court. He is scheduled to appear before Judge Joel Perez for the shooting death of actor Jonathan Joss.

Alvarez, 57, was indicted on a murder charge in November 2025. Joss, 59, was shot just after 7 p.m. on June 1, 2025, in the 200 block of Dorsey Drive near Pleasanton Road in San Antonio. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A San Antonio Police Department report indicated that Joss was at the property checking his mail when the incident occurred. A witness informed police that they observed Alvarez park behind Joss's vehicle. The witness also stated that Alvarez and Joss engaged in an argument outside the vehicle.

According to the police report, the witness claimed Alvarez threatened to shoot Joss before firing a rifle. Following his detention, Alvarez stated to a San Antonio Police Department officer, "I shot him."

Alvarez was released from Bexar County jail on June 4, 2025, three days after the shooting, after a judge set his bond at $200,000. Lead attorney Nico LaHood stated on June 24, 2025, that his client Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez was acting in self-defense.

Earlier the same year, on January 23, 2025, Joss's home caught fire at the location where he was later fatally shot. Joss was known for his role as the voice of John Redcorn on the animated series "King Of The Hill" and had a recurring role in the sitcom "Parks and Recreation."
