ROTHBURY — The body of a neonate was found in a portable bathroom within the camping area of the Electric Forest festival in Rothbury, Michigan, on Sunday. The Michigan State Police are investigating the incident.

An employee of the portable bathroom vendor discovered the body during routine maintenance. The exact age of the newborn is not yet known.

Electric Forest festival organizers issued an appeal for attendees to come forward with information regarding the discovery. "It causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you," Electric Forest festival organizers stated. They added, "Michigan state police continues to investigate this tragic event, if you can assist in any way."

The Michigan State Police also encouraged individuals to provide information. "If you were in the area and observed anything unusual, or if you have information that you believe may be relevant, we encourage you to come forward," the law enforcement agency said. Police requested that people avoid speculation on social media, stating, "We appreciate the public’s cooperation and ask that people avoid speculation on social media out of respect for the investigation and those affected." Authorities have stated there is no known threat to the public.

The four-day festival, hosted at Double JJ Ranch, began on Thursday and was scheduled to conclude on Sunday night. The event features DJ and EDM acts. The festival unexpectedly shut down on Sunday night, hours earlier than anticipated, though organizers attributed this early closure to severe weather and the festival resumed into early Monday.
