JERUSALEM — Shin Bet head David Zini held several meetings in late June to discuss the possibility of canceling the agency's annual trips to Poland. These trips are intended to provide Shin Bet employees with a direct understanding of concentration camps and the magnitude of the Holocaust.

The Shin Bet stated that Zini considered the preservation of Holocaust memory to be of great importance. However, the agency is now examining the organizational establishment of an alternative trip within Israel, specifically to the communities surrounding Gaza.

"The issue of a delegation leaving for Poland is currently being discussed, taking into account a number of ethical considerations," the Shin Bet said. Zini indicated that the agency does "not absorb values on foreign soil."

The discussions led by Zini concern a potential shift in how the agency approaches Holocaust education for its employees. This initiative could reframe the focus of these trips by moving them from sites in Poland to locations within Israel, near Gaza. The proposed change reflects a reevaluation of the educational methodology for agency personnel regarding historical and ethical values.
