LONDON — A new exhibit focusing on the band Wings opened at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2026. The opening coincided with the release of a documentary titled "Man On The Run" and the publication of a 550-page oral history, "Wings: The Story of a Band On The Run."

Fifty years prior to the exhibit, Paul McCartney toured the United States with Wings, marking his first live tour since The Beatles' final tour in 1966. In the early days of Wings, Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, and Denny Laine traveled around the UK in a van and performed at universities for an entry fee of 50p.

Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, and Denny Laine recorded the album "Band on the Run" in Lagos, Nigeria. The recording studio in Lagos lacked basic technical requirements; the band taught staff how to build vocal booths. Paul and Linda McCartney were held up at gunpoint in Lagos, during which demo cassettes and lyrics were stolen. Paul McCartney later recreated the stolen material from memory.

For the 1977 album "London Town," recording sessions took place in a studio constructed on a yacht anchored off the coast of the Virgin Islands. Paul and Linda McCartney often took their three children on tour with Wings.

Earlier in his career, Paul McCartney purchased High Park Farm, a 183-acre property in Scotland, during his time with The Beatles. Life magazine reporters visited High Park Farm in 1969 during the "Paul is dead" scandal. Paul McCartney threw a bucket of slop at reporters who were filming at the farm. He later purchased footage of this incident from Life magazine in exchange for an interview. McCartney also built a recording studio at his home in Scotland.

Early critical reception for Paul McCartney's post-Beatles work included a review of his album "RAM" by critic Jon Landau in Rolling Stone. Landau wrote, "'RAM' represents the nadir in the decomposition of sixties rock so far." Similarly, NME published a review of "RAM" stating, "Certainly it would be true to say that it contains not one worthwhile or lasting piece of music."
