Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced on June 28, 2026, that Maj. Shahar Varon will join the Together party's list for the 26th Knesset. Varon will lead a new initiative within the Together party focused on treating wounded Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers.

The announcement follows the party's introduction of its "New Covenant" plan on June 24, 2026. This plan includes a sub-program for the IDF that will add more than NIS 2 million to state-provided funding for soldier recovery. The sub-program also aims to establish a national rehabilitation authority and provide medical, legal, and financial support for wounded soldiers. Additionally, it plans to streamline the medical committee process, assist with document collection, and prioritize wounded IDF soldiers for adapted housing programs.

Bennett described Varon as "the salt of the earth, a courageous soldier and commander who led his soldiers through the hell of October 7." He added that Varon "led the campaign against the draft evasion law and is leading our revolution in the treatment of wounded IDF soldiers." Varon was deployed on October 7, 2023, fighting with one of the first forces to enter Kfar Aza. He founded the reservists organization "Katef le Katef" to support families across Israel.

Varon was wounded in Gaza City during the Israel-Hamas War and continued to command his troops until the attackers were killed. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Varon stated that he is entering politics "from the same place from which I went out to fight on October 7, out of a sense of mission and responsibility toward the country and toward the people who have carried it on their shoulders in recent years." He added, "I am coming for the soldiers, the wounded, the families, and everyone who gave everything for this country."

The Together party formed in April 2026 from a merger between Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid. As of June 2026, polls indicate the Together party holds 18 seats, while Gadi Eisenkot's party, Yashar!, holds 21 seats, and Likud holds 22 seats.
