WEST BANK — Israeli bulldozers uprooted grapevines at the Slaibi family orchard in Beit Ummar in November 2025. The Israeli military leveled the family's seven-dunam orchard and approximately 30 dunams of land belonging to Amal Slaibi's uncle.

Israeli soldiers ordered the Slaibi family not to come within 500 metres of their grapevines. Amal Slaibi, 58, stated, "They prevented us from even passing near it, then they bulldozed it all … They left us with nothing to live on." Slaibi has managed the family orchard, located north of Hebron, for 25 years. The family harvest previously generated an income of at least 10,000 shekels.

"The land that was bulldozed has moist, rich soil, excellent for growing grapes and other crops, but the other land is dry and unsuitable," Slaibi said. The Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture reported an escalation of violations against the agricultural sector in the West Bank throughout 2025. The ministry estimated overall direct economic losses to the agricultural sector at more than $103 million. Damage to greenhouses, agricultural machinery, and roads in the West Bank was estimated at $2.57 million, with direct losses to the beekeeping sector due to settler attacks reaching approximately $154,000.

Nasr Abdel Karim, an economist, commented on the situation. "I estimate that more than 20% of their activities have declined due to these current circumstances," Karim said. The World Food Programme's Food Security Assessment for the fourth quarter of 2025 indicated that poverty levels in the occupied West Bank increased from 12% before October 2023 to 28% by the end of 2026. By the close of 2025, about 78% of surveyed households in the West Bank reported a decrease in their incomes, and more than 60% of surveyed households stated they could not cover basic monthly expenses.

The number of households in the West Bank experiencing inadequate food consumption rose from 5% in June 2022 to 14% by the end of 2025. The unemployment rate in the West Bank reached 30% during the first quarter of 2026.
