KYIV — Julie Davis, the U.S. acting Ambassador to Ukraine, will resign from her role by the end of June 2026. She informed the State Department of her decision several weeks prior to the announcement.

Davis will officially retire from diplomatic service after a 30-year tenure. She began serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine in May 2025, following Bridget Brink's resignation from the position. Davis also held the position of U.S. Ambassador to Cyprus concurrently with her role as chargé d'affaires in Kyiv.

The State Department denied reports that Davis's resignation was due to differences with President Trump. "It is false to suggest Ambassador Davis is resigning 'over differences with Donald Trump,'" the department said. "Ambassador Davis has been a steadfast proponent of the Trump Administration's efforts to bring about a durable peace between Russia and Ukraine."

However, three individuals familiar with the matter told the Financial Times that Davis would leave her post because of increasing differences with the administration regarding the handling of the war in Ukraine. These sources indicated that Davis was not informed in advance about U.S. President Donald Trump's nomination of John Breslow for the post of U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine in October 2025, and felt surprised by the decision.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the U.S. was not a neutral mediator in the conflict, alleging that it was selling weapons and providing technological support to Ukraine.
