DALLAS AREA — Republicans at this weekend's Conservative Political Action Conference in the Dallas area expressed support for President Trump's military action against Iran while dividing over whether the United States should deploy ground forces.

Some CPAC attendees said they do not want to see ground forces deployed to Iran. "I think the Iranian people need to be in charge of their country. I don't think Americans need to go in there and do what they've done in other wars, but I do believe Trump is right as far as we have to finish what we've started with them," Deborah Thorne said.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio said that ground troops would not be necessary to achieve U.S. goals in Iran. Pentagon officials have made detailed preparations for potentially deploying ground forces to Iran.

"I haven't seen an exit strategy yet and I have grave concerns about it turning into another 20-year-plus endless war," U.S. Representative Nancy Mace said.

After launching strikes against Iran last month, Trump encouraged the Iranian people to rise up against their government.

A recent poll found that 84% of Republicans approved of the U.S. taking military action against Iran. The same poll found that 70% of non-MAGA Republicans approved of the U.S. taking military action against Iran, while 69% of independents opposed U.S. military action in Iran.
