Harris County Commissioner Lesley Briones' office partnered with Baylor College of Medicine to open a teen clinic location in 2024. This clinic is one of seven Baylor teen health clinics across Harris County.

The Baylor teen clinics provide free medical care and mental health services, which include preventive healthcare and reproductive healthcare. Minors must have parental consent to receive services, and there are no residency requirements for the clinics.

Daniel Rodriguez, Precinct Four Chief Operations Officer, said, "It's called the Baylor teen health clinic, and they're here for anyone age 13 to 24, that's the only qualifying factor." He added, "They're open five days a week, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm by appointment. They take walk-ins as well if they have space available, and even if they don't, they'll connect you with one of the precinct four social workers to make sure you get the care you need."

The clinic located next to the Bayland Community Center serves the Gulfton neighborhood, where 36% of residents are uninsured. U.S. Census data indicates that Texas has the highest number of uninsured residents in the United States.

Kayla Mendiola, who utilized the services, stated, "I come from a family that is low-income, so to have that opportunity to have something completely free, something I don't have to stress about, it was incredibly important and special." The clinics also connect patients with a high school diploma or GED who are interested in health care professions to the ascend program. This privately funded program covers tuition for community college certification courses.
