HORSESHOE BAY — A Boeing 777 aircraft made a low pass at 25 feet above ground level over the Horseshoe Bay Resort Jet Center airport in Central Texas on June 24, 2026. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident involving the plane, which is owned by Jetran, a company based in Horseshoe Bay.

Pilots operating the Boeing 777 alerted the air traffic control tower to the maneuver, stating, "We are turning final runway 17 for a low approach, 5DN heavy." Data from FlightRadar24 indicated the plane was no more than 25 feet above the ground during this pass. The aircraft has the registration N705DN and is a Boeing 777-200LR freighter, which was previously a Delta Air Lines plane and was converted into a freighter by Mammoth Freighters.

Jetran stated the plane "was undergoing a final pre-delivery test flight prior to its planned entry into the Qatar Airways Cargo fleet." The company clarified that "While the aircraft is painted in Qatar Airways livery, it was not owned or operated by Qatar Airways, did not carry a Qatar Airways registration, and the pilots on board were not Qatar Airways pilots." Jetran added, "We expect the relevant parties and authorities to investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action."

Robert Sumwalt, former National Transportation Safety Board Chair, stated the pilots could face having their credentials suspended over the move. Sumwalt called the maneuver "another example of stupid pilot tricks." He further stated, "I see no legitimate reason at all to perform this maneuver the way that it was done." Sumwalt added, "They clearly had planned it, they had an audience standing by to watch it and to video it, so there's no real reason why they should have been doing this."
