SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Police Department released body camera video on Thursday, June 20, 2026, showing Officer Matthew Kory shooting suspect Hector Carreno on May 29, 2026, during a pursuit. The video shows Kory firing his weapon after Carreno appeared to produce a gun.

The incident began after an anonymous 911 caller reported a wanted person in a backyard near Southwest 19th Street and Chihuahua Street. Police identified the 31-year-old individual as Hector Carreno, who had two outstanding felony warrants for possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm.

Kory, 24, pursued Carreno over backyard fences in the 3100 block of Vera Cruz. During the pursuit, Carreno's shirt became caught in a chain-link fence, and Kory grabbed onto it. As they struggled, Kory said, "Come here, m-----f------." Carreno asked, "What did I do to you?" Kory replied, "Stay right f------ here." At this point, Carreno appeared to produce a gun in his right hand. Kory yelled, "He's got a gun," before firing his weapon four times.

Two of the shots wounded Carreno. After firing, Kory repeatedly shouted, "Let me see your hands." Police stated that neither officers nor bystanders sustained injuries during the pursuit. A weapon was recovered at the scene.

Carreno faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, and evading arrest. Police said all findings related to the incident will be forwarded to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office for review. The May 29 shooting marked the second time an SAPD officer discharged their firearm in an incident in 2026.
