KYIV — Russia launched over 270 drones at Ukraine overnight, killing at least five people across multiple regions, according to Ukrainian authorities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made an unannounced visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he met with Emirati President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to discuss regional security during the Iran war, according to Emirati state media.

Two people were killed and at least 11 others were injured in a nighttime Russian drone strike on Odesa, according to a Telegram post by Serhii Lysak. The strike damaged a maternity hospital and private houses. In Kryvyi Rih, a Russian drone hit an industrial facility, killing two men and injuring two others, according to a Telegram update by Oleksandr Gandzha. One person was killed overnight in the Poltava region as a result of Russian strikes on industrial sites, according to regional authorities.

Ukraine's air force reported that Russia launched 273 drones at Ukraine during the night, of which 252 were downed or electronically jammed. Zelenskyy said that the strike on Odesa involved more than 60 drones.

"Last night, the Russians launched a massive strike on Odesa. There was no military purpose whatsoever — this was pure terror against ordinary civilian life," Zelenskyy said.

"For Ukraine, this is also a matter of principle: terror must not prevail anywhere in the world. Protection must be sufficient everywhere," he said.

Ukraine is helping the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan counter Iran's drone strikes on their territory, according to Zelenskyy. Ukraine has developed domestic drone interceptors that have been used in its defense against Russia's invasion. The country is seeking high-end air-defense missiles from Gulf countries in return for its aid.
