MONTGOMERY COUNTY — A Montgomery County Emergency Services District No. 1 firefighter sustained injuries from debris following a garbage truck tire blowout on June 25, 2026. The incident occurred during a post-fire assessment of a commercial vehicle fire.

Montgomery County ESD 1 responded to a reported commercial vehicle fire involving a garbage truck. The driver of the garbage truck extinguished the fire using an onboard fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived at the scene. Firefighters then used a thermal imaging camera to check for lingering hot spots during the assessment phase.

During this assessment, one of the garbage truck's inside front dual tires blew out. Debris from the tire blowout struck a firefighter in the left leg and midsection. The injured firefighter was evaluated at the scene before being transported to HCA Houston Healthcare Conroe. The firefighter is in stable condition.

"We are extremely grateful that our firefighter's injuries were not more serious and that they are doing well," Fire Chief Jason Oliphant said. "Incidents like this remind us that even after a fire has been extinguished, unexpected hazards can still exist."
