HARRIS COUNTY — A 12-year-old girl called 911 on June 25, 2026, after finding her mother unresponsive inside a home in the 12500 block of Baldwin Springs in northwest Harris County. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Deputies and EMS found the child unharmed outside the residence. Investigators located a deceased woman, identified as the girl's biological mother, and a deceased man, identified as her stepfather, in separate rooms.

HCSO Homicide Sgt. Michael Ritchie said on June 26, 2026, "This is looking more like it is a murder-suicide." Investigators reported no signs of forced entry and no evidence suggesting the involvement of other individuals. One weapon was recovered from the scene, but authorities have not disclosed its type or how either victim died. The causes of death remain under investigation, and the Harris County Sheriff's Office has not publicly identified the victims.

Deputies are reviewing surveillance video, speaking with neighbors, and working to establish a timeline. Officials are also attempting to determine if there were previous domestic violence incidents involving the family. Neighbors reported previously observing the woman injured during an apparent domestic disturbance and claimed deputies responded, but the Sheriff's Office has not confirmed any prior calls for service at the residence. A family friend said the girl's older sister is in Venezuela and contacted friends after learning of the incident.
