Nashville Mayor Freddie O'Connell nominated Robert "Jaz" Boon to the Nashville Electric Service Board on June 25, 2026. The nomination will replace current board chair Anne Davis, whose five-year term is ending.

Boon is an attorney with Sherrard Roe Voigt & Harbison, specializing in business litigation, commercial matters, and environmental health and safety compliance. He previously served as assistant general counsel for Bridgestone Americas, where he advised on environmental, health, safety, and sustainability issues. Boon obtained his law degree from Belmont University and a bachelor's degree in biology from Lipscomb University.

Mayor O'Connell stated that Boon's background would be beneficial, saying, "His experience in environmental law and working with nonprofit organizations and government agencies would benefit the utility." Boon serves on the board of Urban Green Lab and on the advisory board for Belmont University College of Law. He also formerly chaired the Tennessee Bar Association's environmental law section.

The Metro Council must approve the nomination for Boon to join the board. Earlier in 2026, Winter Storm Fern caused power outages for approximately 230,000 customers. The Nashville Electric Service is currently implementing recommendations from an independent review commissioned to assess its response to the storm. This review identified areas for strengthening infrastructure, communications, and storm preparedness.
