HUMBLE, TEXAS — The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office released body camera footage on June 24, 2026, showing an ambush that left two deputies wounded during a June 19 response to a man firing shots in Humble, Texas. Deputies Dante Zepeda and George Esparza were shot upon arriving at the scene.

Deputies had responded to reports of a man randomly firing shots. The body camera video shows the incident from the perspective of Deputy Zepeda. He was struck twice by a rifle-wielding gunman, sustaining wounds to his arm and wrist. Deputy Esparza was hit by bullet fragments in his side.

The video depicts Deputy Zepeda speaking with another deputy before shots were fired. After being wounded, Deputy Zepeda drew his gun and pointed it. Deputies then attempted to render aid to Deputy Zepeda, working to stop bleeding from his arm and hand. Other deputies drove him to a hospital.

The suspect was arrested an hour after the shooting with the assistance of a SWAT unit and K-9 team. The suspect was taken to a hospital after suffering a severe bite by the K-9. The individual will face a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer once released from the hospital. The suspect is not visible in the body camera video.

Deputy Zepeda was released from the hospital on June 21, 2026, and is continuing his recovery at home. Constable Mark Herman stated, "These videos depict what the men and women in law enforcement go through every day." He added, "It’s a dangerous job."
